Clare’s work on political participation has mostly focused on social movements and protest. She has worked on several European projects on environmental activism (The Transformation of Environmental Activism 1999-2000), the global justice movement (Democracy and Europe and the Mobilization of Society 2004-2008), NGOs and the European Court of Human rights (Jurisprudence of the Strasbourg Courts 2007-2008) and on European street protests (Caught in the Act of Protest 2009-2013).  Her work is widely published in sociology and politics journals, including British Journal of Sociology, European Political Science Review  and Political Research Quarterly. Her book on Environmental Networks and Social Movement Theory was published by Bloomsbury in 2013.
